Lynda Nicholson:

Very convincing start – all well in place with well balanced sound. Alla Marcia – this is a touch fast for me, but you convince me as all is well under control. 7 onwards there are a few moments where the rhythm and tempo are not secure. 11 - this could be a little more Maestoso for me. Great move into 12. Agitato just right. Nicely done Rall into Andante. Moderato – this does not feel as well under control as your opening and there is some untidiness as a result.

17 - Gorgeous transition to Andante – make sure all inner parts are balanced and in tune. Bravo soloists. 19 - you understand the ‘ensemble’ work here. All soloists excellent. Accel – well handled. Allegro – good sound cornets but a bit scratchy today. This all knits together rhythmically and has just the right feel. Molto Rall – well judged. Lento – tuning needs care here. Andante – good band sound – all parts well balanced and sostenuto very well done. You manage to keep balance right to the end – Bravo!

An exciting performance full of drama and a good understanding of the ‘music’. Thank you.

Simone Rebello:

Exciting opening with controlled rhythmic work. 2 - use more dynamics here and watch rhythms after tie. Watch basses and bass drum at 3 are not too heavy. Alla Marcia – good tempo selected – keep singing through phrases/watch ensemble on triplets. 6 - Keep tempo consistent here. Before 7 - a little loose here. 8 - good articulation. 9 - keep sound contained here. Before 11 - a little untidy in ensemble. 11 - Full sound at Maestoso and good management of effects at Agitato. Watch tempo at Andante. A little untidy on re entry on moderato. Occasionally tempo pushes forward – keep controlled.

17 - watch that long notes move exactly together. Andante – lovely sound from soloist and lots of space in the band. Keep accompaniment as sensitive as possible and keep long phrases flowing. 18 - good work from soloist. 19 - Keep voicing clear. 20 - a few tuning/intonation moments here. Allegro – a good sound, a little unfortunate with split notes. Style is nice and light and playful. 24 - Great sound and commitment. Lento – good work here and a nice lead to Andante. Keep sound in the top of the band a little more cantabile.

Full and controlled finale with plenty of colour and commitment. A very well prepared and executed performance with plenty to commend and a good sound from the band.
